Case Study - Bedroom Re-plan

Bedroom floor plans

In the original bedroom layout, several design flaws were immediately noticeable. The bed was positioned directly across from the entrance, so the first thing you saw when walking in was the bed, and from the bed, you had a clear view of the toilet—a setup that hardly promotes a comfortable space. Additionally, the long corridor leading into the room took up valuable floor space, while the oversized wardrobe offered little benefit despite occupying a significant portion of the room. The existing large window didn’t help either, as it framed an unattractive view of a messy roof and the neighbor’s backyard. On top of that, the room felt stuffy and noisy due to non-functional windows and a lack of insulation.

In the new redesign, these issues were thoughtfully addressed:

  • We relocated the entry door to improve flow, creating a more peaceful transition into the space. Now, you enter into a calm robe area that separates the bedroom from the hallway, adding 2 square meters of usable space and making the room feel more expansive.

  • Textured floor-to-ceiling oak paneling was added, bringing warmth and tactility to the room The bed was moved to face a window with serene treetop views, offering a more tranquil start to the day. The Eastern window, previously an awkward crescent shape, was enlarged to enhance the views, while the South window was reduced in size with an external battened screen added to direct views away from neighboring properties.

  • The ensuite was redesigned for greater functionality. We removed the glass shower screen and door and added an integrated vanity with hidden storage behind the mirror.

  • The walls and windows are now painted in a warm beige tone, complemented by subtle colours in the curtain fabric. Layered lighting creates a softer, cosier atmosphere with adjustable brightness levels to suit different moods.

  • A new ceiling fan, paired with operable windows, helps circulate fresh air throughout the space. When noise becomes an issue, double-glazed windows keep the room perfectly sealed from drafts and outside sounds and an HRV system provides fresh, filtered air. An airtight barrier was also added to the walls for extra noise and thermal control.

The room now feels more harmonious .

  • ‘The house feels calmer and warmer, with more light and sun coming in, contributing to a sense of well-being. I love our new bedroom and the separation from the bathroom has been a significant improvement’ - Rebecca C
